HOT, HUMID AND HEADWIND
We left the B&B in Glenwood City about 8:30 and headed off on to Osseo. Vai navigated, his software -Komoot - had a shorter route than Ridewithgps (70 miles vs 80 miles). I am a bit tired of Ridewithgps’ wayfinding always taking the least travelled, and generally longer route.
The route was quite pretty and generally rural, corn and corn and corn and soybeans were the crops, with some hay and wheat.
We stopped for lunch in Eau Clair. Since it is Sunday July 4 it was difficult to get a sense of the town. However, due to the lack of boarded up store fronts, Eau Clair appears to have critical mass and is doing ok.
After lunch our route turned a bit more south and the wind picked up from the SSW. The afternoon was a grunt, 90 degrees, humid (75 - 80%), wind 15 -20 SSW and generally on roads that had little shoulder, some traffic and poor asphalt. The roads did have some long, straight, empty stretches however, such a surprise!
Arrived Osseo around 4:30. Swim, shower, bike maintenance and get ready for dinner.
They did allow us in at the nearby family restaurant, though that may not have been their wisest decision.
By the numbers:
Dist - 73.7 miles
Elev Gain - 2,109 ft
Elev Loss - 2,090 ft
Moving Time 6:10
I remember those road cracks and the seemingly endless boom boom boom —in Wisconsin
ReplyDeleteGlad you got a swim in
Sounds like it was a hard day. Pretty soon you’ll be on a ferry, right…
DeleteAfter all this riding think about how strong you'll be for next year's head races. 👍👍
